In addition to the enormous economic and environmental advantages of the new Repurpose Innovation Park, the expanded recycling operations has the potential to bring 300-500 new, full-time jobs to Harford County.
Recycling in Harford County is currently picked up curbside and brought to the Harford County Recycling Transfer Station at the Harford Waste Disposal Center, where they are loaded onto tractor trailers and transported to a processing facility in Baltimore County. The segregated material is then sent to secondary market vendors who process the material into re-usable products. The cost of transporting recyclable materials out of the county can be reduced with the efficiency of once again having a local campus to create re-usable products.
Recycling is still the most cost-effective way for cities to handle their trash, due to the high cost of incineration. Recycling centers have a longer lifespan than landfills or waste processing centers. It maximizes waste material value by integrating downstream conversion and manufacturing processes on-site.
Building upon cutting-edge sustainability, Repurpose Innovation Park will turn the expanded campus into the new standard for recycling. Through scaling up testing and equipment, expansion can attract unprecedented attention and investment to the local industry, benefiting many.
